‘Bill & Joan’, The World Premiere at Sacred Fools

Bill & Joan

Two people bound to complete each other – or destroy each other. 1951. Mexico City. Writer William S. Burroughs awakes to find himself in jail, being questioned about the death of his wife Joan Vollmer. Their drunken game of William Tell went wrong, and now the Mexican police want to know exactly what happened. Was it an accident, a murder, or a bizarre form of suicide? Bill & Joan is a phantasmagorical journey through Burroughs’s heroin-hazed, tortured mind in search of what really happened on that night when a speed freak and a junkie walked into a metaphorical bar, but only one walked out.”

The World Premiere of Jon Bastion’s ‘Bill & Joan’, Lead Directed by Diana Wyenn, will hit the Sacred Fools stage with a bang on January 24 and run until March 1. Performances are on Fridays & Saturdays @ 8pm with additional Thursday performances on February 6 & 13 @ 8pm. Tickets are $20 each. A special “Donate What You Can” performance will be held on Jan. 31 with half of all proceeds being donated to charity. I’m pleased to be a part of this production, serving as Prop Designer and Asst. Director. The cast and crew have been outstanding and the play itself has been evolving ever since it saw the light of day. I highly suggest this production, whether you know what happened between William S. Burroughs and his wife, Joan Vollmer, or not. Either way, you’ll come away unable to resist discussing the piece with fellow patrons long after the curtain has closed.
