1=0
Mathematics has a fragile nobility that can be drawn between two numbers…just as it can be drawn between two people. When Celeste, an unemployed, divorced, & disabled theoretical physicists accepts the help of another, Molly, her dependence leaves a few variables for filling, and nothing comes out even. When she forms an internet relationship with Russel, a man claiming to be a Syrian refugee, the equation only becomes more complicated.
The faith once placed in numbers, which aren’t supposed to lie, has been compromised and a paradox forms that questions reality. “What is real” leads to bigger questions: Can 1=0? Can true love exist? Can someone defy reality? What is infinite possibility?

Blood/Sugar
BLOOD/SUGAR
In 2017, I worked with a long time artistic friend to develop a new production that would increases awareness and focus on the truth surrounding diabetes. Since then, I worked with them on the first three mountings and the development of that production before it began to expand beyond California to educate and entertain people in our nation. It’s coming back to California and I have the pleasure of being part of the production once again. I couldn’t be more excited about where it has gone, who it has taught, how many medical professionals want it to continue, and how much more it can influence, inform, and teach those who don’t know what it means to live with diabetes. And it’s all thanks to Diana Wyenn.
In Blood/Sugar, historical perspectives and staggering statistics collide with personal narrative, live-feed video, Shakespeare, and original movement to give embodied expression to the complexities of living with a chronic illness.
Creator Diana Wyenn, who has Type 1 diabetes, places her story and body at the center of the work, as both a carrier of disease and a vehicle for theatrical transmission. Blood/Sugar challenges the binary of health and illness to create a vivid account of the life-sustaining self-care that diabetes demands of more than 422 million people worldwide.
Each performance is followed by a conversation between Wyenn, the audience and a diabetes educator.
